Abstract

Sher Shah Suri was a great empire builder, by sheer dint of hard work, he rose to the position of the Emperor of India. He possessed an iron determination and was shrewd and diplomatic in his actions. Sher Shah Suri was the founder of the second Afghan dynasty in India called as the dynasty of Sur’s after he dethroned the newly established Mughal Empire in the Kannauj battle of 1540 A.D. The historians conclude Sher Shah Suri as one of the most remarkable and exceptional ruler in the history of India. His achievements in the brief ruling tenure have been termed as very much revolutionary whether political or economic reforms. Sher Shah Suri is best known for introducing various trade and commercial reforms. In this paper an attempt has been made to examine the advancement or development of the Roads and Sarai’s under Sher Shah Suri which proved to be exceptionally favourable for trade and commercial actions and heightened the economic allure throughout his kingdom.
